Most anticipated release of the year!? 2023

A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon has been released today!

On Saturday the 25th of February I went to Samantha Shannon’s event in Liverpool. It was amazing. The venue St George’s Hall was very appropriate, for a novel around a George and the dragon retelling! I loved hearing about the writing process for this novel and being surrounded by fellow book lovers. Getting to meet her and have my books, both priory and A day of Fallen night personally signed was just perfect. I am so excited to dive back into the world of dragons and powerful women.

Insatiable – A review

Insatiable by Daisy Buchanan
Rating 1  maybe…? Ouch.

Synopsis:
Violet is bored of her life, her mundane job, sex life, everything. Until, she meets Lottie, a woman Violet can only dream of being and her husband Simon, they invite her into their lives.

Violet becomes so bewitched by their life style, their townhouse, their Friday night sex parties, she craves to be wanted, needed, seen. The promise of an exciting new job endlessly dangled in front of her, like a carrot on the string. Just in grasp but never truly there. Violet falls deeper down the rabbit hole.

Thoughts:
This book was interesting. The depiction of everyday mundane life was great, very realistic. However the conflict and a serious plot point was never full resolved. Spoiler – child loss and sexual assult are themes within this novel. They seem to used purely for utter shock and written so poorly its just used as a plot devise and then quickly forgotten about, results in the seriousness of these themes to be completely ignored.  Do not appreciate themes like these to be discussed so lightly.
The main character Violet was just so unlikeable, she became so hard to stomach, her endless inner monologue endlessly repeating the same sentences over and over in a different way becomes so annoying.

Would sadly not recommend this novel for a variety of reason.

So… Hello again!

Once again life got in the way. However, I’m back and I’m really going to give this a good go again! I’m reading more books. So far in 2023, I’ve read 8! Which isn’t too bad considering I work 40 hours a week. But, I’m glad to be back doing something I enjoy, something I love!
